Biography

Captain Norbert Beckman was born in Jordan, Minnesota on April 2, 1923 to Frank and Katherine Beckman.

When he went to Iowa State College, he pledged to Phi Kappa Fraternity. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp as a private, but became second lieutenant on November 13, 1943. He was promoted to first lieutenant in September 1944. He then served with the 8th Air Force, 1st A.D, 40th Combat Bombardment Wing, 305th Group, 365th Squadron and made Squadron Bombardier on February 27, 1945.

Ira died over Buchendorf, Germany.

His decorations and citations include the Air Medal, two Oak Leaf Clusters (September 29, 1944 and January 10, 1945) and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He had not been notified of his promotion to captain at the time of his death.
