Biography

Charles Buffington was born on September 26, 1919 to Charles Rollin Huffington and Irene Griggs. He grew up in Glennwood, Iowa.

While at Iowa State College, he was friends with Pru Buffington, a member of Beta Theta Pi, Tau Sigma chapter. After graduating from Iowa State in 1942, Lieutenant Charles Rollin Buffington III entered service that June. He trained at Camp Roberts, Fort Sill, and Pine Camp. He was a field artillery officer who flew observation planes. He died in an airplane crash at Camp Pickett, Virginia, while on manouvers with the 45th division.
