Clarence Briggs - Ensign

Biography

Ensign Donald C. Briggs was born in Ames, Iowa on January 11, 1916 to Jane Briggs.

While attending Iowa State College, he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He enjoyed tennis, hiking, and could read French. He also served as the organization editor for ISC's yearbook The Bomb. He was also associate business manager for Sketch and he helped organize Veishea. He graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Industrial Science - Economics.

Clarence's occupational interests included sales and advertising. He worked for the Socony-Vacuum Oil Company in Des Moines prior to entering the Navy in October 1942. He studied and trained at the University of Notre Dame where he became an Ensign in January 1943.

That February, he went to the Amphibious Training Base at Little Creek, Virginia. He went overseas August 1943 and drowned while performing his duty, December 1, 1943 off the coast of England.
