Biography

Edwin Emmet Hites graduated from Iowa State College in 1915 in Veternary Medicine. He enlisted June 12, 1917 as a second lieutenant. He was then assigned to the 6th Field Artillery stationed at Douglas, Arizona on July 18, 1917.

He sailed overseas from Hoboken New Jersey July 31 and landed in France on August 13, 1917. His company fired the first American shots ino German lines October, 1917. His last engagement was the American advance into St. Mihiel.

Edwin died of bronchial pneumonia September 28, 1918 and was buried in a Catholic cemetery at Blois, France.
