Biography

Hortense Elizabeth Wind is the only woman listed in the Gold Star Hall. She was the daughter of Mary H. Wind and related to Vera B. Wind.

She came to Iowa State College from Council Bluffs, Iowa and graduated in 1915 in Home Economics. She entered service February 1918 and became the Chief Dietitian at the Naval Hosptial at Norfolk, Virginia.

Hortense died of influenza on December 10, 1918. Her body was buried with full officer's services at Council Bluff's, Iowa on December 17, 1918.
