Corporal Clyde E. Beer was the son of Mrs. Flora C. Beer. His hometown was Keosauqua, Iowa.

Clyde graduated from Iowa State College with the class of 1917 in Electrical Engineering. He enlisted in the Army in Des Moines, Iowa on June 5, 1917 and became a private, first class. After reaching Allentown, Pennsylvania, the army transferred him to a company from New York which was going overseas.

In France, his company served with the French army as part of unit 594, stationed in Paris, where he achieved the rank of corporal.

Clyde saw 13 months of service before he was killed in action September 9, 1918. France awarded him the Croix de Guerre (Cross of War) for his heroic deeds in combat.
