Biography

First Lieutenant Curtis H. Sigler was born in Omaha, Nebraska on December 8, 1921 to John M. Sigler and Emma Johannsen-Sigler. He also lived in Kansas City, Missouri for a time.

Sigler enlisted into the Army Air Forces in Ames, Iowa on December 8, 1941, the day after Pearl Harbor. He was inducted at Bakersfield California on January 15, 1942. Then he received his commission as second lieutenant on August 27, 1942.

Later, Sigler was promoted to first lieutenant after arriving in India. He flew P=40 Tomahawks for the 88th Fighter Squadron, 80th Fighter Group and 10th Air Force in the China-Burma-India theatre.

Curtis was killed over Myitkyina on his 119th mission after two-and-a-half years of service on July 28, 1944. His decorations and citations include: Air Medal, February 17, 1944; One Oak Leaf Cluster; the Distinguished Flying Cross, March 21, 1944; Another Oak Leaf Cluster, added July 16, 1944.
