His only record in his file comes from the February 1947 issue of the Iowa State College Alumnus:
"No word has been at the College concerning the death of Private Max Lucius Brothers, Ex '47 other than the following item listed under the 'Iowa War Casualties' published in the Des Moines paper for Dec. 22, 1944: 'Grand River--Pvt. Max Brothers, 20, infantry, Grand River, son of Mrs. Vera Brothers, Ankeny Ia., school teacher, was killed in Germany Nov. 20.'"
