Biography

Private Russell Walter Rippey was the son of Mrs. F. J. Rippey. He grew up in Ira, Iowa.

He was formerly of the class of 1918 in the two-year agricultural program. He enlisted April 16, 1917 and was assigned to Company D, 23rd Infantry, 1st Batallion Snipers, 2nd Division.

He landed in France sometime in September 1917. He survived a gas attack at Chateau-Thierry on June 23, 1918.

Russell was wounded on October 7, 1918 and died on October 10.
