Biography

Second Lieutenant Bernard Sewell Black was born in Brooksville, Maine on June 25, 1923 to Eugene M. Black and Clemency Guttrich. He graduated from Iowa State College in Aerospace Engineering in 1943 and entered the service in March of 1943 at Des Moines, IA. That September he received his commission. He served with the 497th Bombardment group at Boca Raton, Florida.

He married Betty Jean Potts at Brooklyn, New York on June 18, 1944.

Bernard died while on a B-29 Superfortress bombing raid on January 10, 1945 over Tokyo.
