Biography

Captain Donald Newton Nibe was born in Jewell, Iowa on March 1, 1914. He also lived in nearby Story City. His parents were Helmer (?) J. Nibe and Christine Peterson.

He married Dorothy Fisher on October 13, 1941 in Missouri. They lived in Eagle Grove, Iowa.

Donald entered the National Guard in January 1941in Boone, Iowa. He was made corporal and then sergeant sometime in 1941. While at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he was promoted to second lieutenant. After transferring to Camp Chaffur, Arkansas, he was promoted to First Lieutenant. In April of 1943 he was made captain and commanding officer of his battalion, the 59th ARMD, FAB, with the 5th Army. 

Donald was killed in action at Artema, Italy on May 29, 1944. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart after his death.
