Biography

Second Lieutenant Elmer D Rydberg's sister, Grace, wrote the following to the Alumni Assocition dated December 31, 1944:

"Elmer enlisted April 1942 - called for training July 1942 - classified at Santa Anna California - Primary Flight Training at Thunderbird Field near Phoenix Arizona, Basic Flight Training at Pecos Texas - Advanced Flight Training at Luke Field, Arizona.

Received Wings and Commissioned 2nd Lt. 5/20/43. Stationed in England from November or December 1943 until he was reported missing.

At this time, my brother Elmier Don Rydberg - a P-51 mustang fighter pilot - is 'missing in action in the the European Area and is unable to answer this questionnaire in person. He has been missing since last April but at this time his status is still "missing" on war department records."

Lieutenant Rydberg was officially declared dead on October 14, 1945. He went missing in action on April 1, 1944.
