The mother of Gene Lundell Peterson wrote the following letter to the Alumni Association on November 1, 1945:
"Dear Sir,
In the Oct. issue of Alumni Activities I noted the list of Gold Star service men and your request for others whose names hould appear. Pvt. Gene L. Peterson, Cherokee, Ia was killed in action in the South West Pacific, Feb. 11, 1945. He first was declared missing in action March 25, 1945 with the killed in action report coming Sept. 5, 1945.
Gene attended Ames the years of 1942 and 1943 - leaving that spring for service.
