Biography

Second Lieutenant John Wallace Currie was born in Odebolt, Iowa, on August 22, 1915 to John Currie and Nellie Smith. He entered the Army at Fort Des Moines, Iowa on April 10, 1941.

John became a private first class that November, corporal August 1942, staff sergeant December 1942, and second lieutenant on August 13, 1943. He participated is several battles in North Africa without being wounded.

He died when a mine exploded in his camp in Tunisia August 16, 1943, just shy of this 28th birthday and three days after becoming an officer.

John's citations include the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Medal, and the African and Middle-Eastern Campaign Medals.
