Selection by Juror
The jurors will select works for the exhibition from the artwork submitted on March 28. The juror reserves the right to reject any piece of work that does not meet eligibility specifications or presentation criteria.
Mike and Sandy Gustafson own and operate Nestcraft Studio, a small independent interior arts company in Des Moines. Mike is a woodworker who is well versed in both old world traditions as well as new technology and equipment used to produce high end furniture. Sandy is an artist, designer and interior painter. She teaches at the Des Moines Art Center and has organized multiple public art projects in the City of Des Moines. The pair also hosts Transient Gallery, a non-commercial art experience that brings museum quality art to the greater Des Moines area.
The juror will determine Best of Show and Merit Award winners from accepted works. Awards will total $325 (one $100 Best of Show and three $75 Merit Awards). In addition, the juror will give two Honorable Mentions.
The Student Activities Center will select a Purchase Award winner. The artist’s piece will be purchased by SAC for inclusion in the MU permanent collection. Only pieces that are for sale will be considered for this award.
A public reception will be held on Wednesday, March 6 at 6:30pm in the Gallery. There will be comments by the juror and award announcements. This will be held in conjunction with the Focus Grant Exhibit reception. All artists are encouraged to attend, whether your work is accepted into the show or not. Please invite family, friends and your professors, too!
The MU does not receive a commission on artwork sales during student exhibitions. The Gallery Coordinator will refer all purchase questions to the artist.
Submission to this exhibition constitutes acceptance of stated conditions. The Student Activities Center reserves the right to photograph accepted work for publicity and/or inventory purposes. All entries will be handled in a professional manner. Insurance will be provided while artwork is in the possession of the MU and will cease on May 2.
