The Memorial Union is happy to welcome Kristine Heflin to Iowa State University. Heflin will begin her new role as Associate Director of Student Activities for the Memorial Union staff starting Monday, September 23.

Heflin will report to Memorial Union Director Steve Winfrey and oversee student engagement in the Memorial Union, including leadership and service, student clubs and organizations, entertainment, arts, major programs, and the Maintenance Shop, the Workspace, and Cybowl and Billiards. Heflin will also help the Memorial Union meet its mission to complete the college experience by developing leadership, community, and career-readiness.

“Kristine not only brings a wealth of experiences and a history of successful programs, she is a solid leader and team player,” Winfrey said. “What impressed a lot of individuals during Kristine’s interview was her poise, strength of emotional intelligence, and desire to get to know our team at a deep level.  She will certainly add a whole new dimension to the Memorial Union here at ISU.”

Heflin has worked at Northern Arizona University for the past nine years as the Assistant Director for Student Leadership and Engagement, where she has oversight of registered student organizations and signature leadership development programs, and she advises the Associated Students of NAU and Student Activities Council. An Ames native, Heflin attended the University of Iowa and then worked for the Iowa State University Research Foundation before getting her master’s degree at The Ohio State University.

“My family and I are so excited to be coming home to Iowa,” Heflin said. “I can’t wait to join the talented Memorial Union team to provide amazing leadership and involvement opportunities for Iowa State students.”

Heflin is looking forward to integrating into the Memorial Union team and helping to provide leadership both for the Student Activities department and to the Memorial Union staff. She wants to help them tell their stories and showcase their accomplishments using data and assessment. She is dedicated to ensuring the Memorial Union is providing the best possible experience for Iowa State students and the larger Iowa State and Ames communities.

In her spare time, Heflin enjoys spending time with her family, watching college and NFL football, and checking out local festivals and museums. A true Iowan at heart, she can’t wait to get back to the Iowa State Fair.
