Discover the Iowa Student Leadership Experience - developing the next generation of leaders

A little over two years ago, we dedicated effort and heart to redefining who we are so we can meet the ever-changing needs of the Iowa State students both now and in the future. Part of our mission is to complete the college experience by developing leadership, community, and career readiness. It has always been our purpose to serve and support students, but also help them make an impact on the world around us.
The MU is proud to support Student Engagement, an office where students can take advantage of peer consulting on how to start a new club, plan a retreat, secure volunteer opportunities, or attend a conference in pursuit of personal development.
In partnership with the University of Iowa and University of Northern Iowa, Iowa State is hosting the Iowa Student Leadership Experience (ISLE) – a one day leadership conference that brings students together to collaborate, engage, and practice meaningful leadership. This year, the event is taking place this Saturday, February 12 from 11am - 4:30pm in the Durham Great Hall.
Hayley Goddard, leadership and student organizations coordinator within our Student Engagement Office, is instrumental in helping plan ISLE. She is excited to be working with colleagues from the University of Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa to create our first in-person conference experience that will provide student leaders with the opportunity to engage with leaders across our institutions. They’ll discuss their experiences, goals, problems, and solutions for the organizations that they are a part of.
“Our committee believes that this conference will provide students with long-lasting connections, idea generation, and growth that will continue beyond their experience as a student leader and into their lives after graduation,” says Goddard. (Pictured above.)
We love getting feedback from our very own students who are also heavily involved in planning the conference. Reed Blanchard is a first year graduate student in the student affairs program here at Iowa State University and spends time working as a graduate assistant in our Student Engagement Office. He has enjoyed planning ISLE with the other Board of Regents institutions because he gets to collaborate with other student affairs professionals from across the state of Iowa.
"For me, this event has served as a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience that's paired with the knowledge and information gained from coursework. We're looking forward to hosting an event that’s impactful for students of all identities, backgrounds, and roles on campuses because everyone possesses traits that make them a great leader," Blanchard explained. By developing the next generation of leaders with ISLE and many other programs, we are furthering our mission to prepare students for success in their future. While we may be a historic building home to many departments, event and meeting spaces, so much more is happening within our walls.
There is still time if you'd like to get involved! Registration is free for all students and includes breakfast, lunch, and a snack, as well as lots of fun ISLE swag, including custom Raygun ISLE t-shirts! Check out our website for more information on the ISLE conference or email our ISLE committee with any questions or concerns.
