Rocket and Gizzae have been the heartbeat of the Chicago reggae scene since the early 90s. Born from the roots of the legendary Dallol Band, the group established itself as a staple at legendary Chicago music venue, The Wild Hare, a cornerstone of the city’s musical fabric. For over 30-years, their mission has remained the same: bring authentic island vibrations and high-energy performances to every stage they touch.

The story begins on the lush Caribbean island of Dominica. Growing up in a musical family, Brian “Rocket” Rock was performing live by age 12, eventually becoming the lead vocalist for Dominica’s legendary group, The Swinging Stars. This early foundation shaped the authentic roots reggae soul that Rocket carries today. His journey later took him to New York City, where he co-founded the influential band Moja Nya and became a sought-after session musician, contributing bass lines to iconic projects like Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the U.S.A.” and the Rolling Stones’ “Too Much Blood.”

Since relocating to Chicago, Rocket has been the central driving force and primary songwriter for Gizzae. He leads an evolving collective of world-class musicians, providing both the rich lead vocals and the deep, rhythmic bass lines that define their sound. Currently, that energy is powered by a core group of talented artists including Isaiah Rock on keys and vocals, Frankie Parker on trombone and percussion, and Martindale Olive on guitar. Joining them are Josue Soundtrack on keys and Mello Francis on drums, along with other guest artists who join the stage throughout the year to keep the vibration fresh.
