Sale Open April 14-26, Monday-Friday from 2-9pm and Saturday from 10am-4pm
The Workspace is hosting a Pop-Up Basket Sale April 14 – 26 with the Uganda Alliance Club. By purchasing a handmade basket created by members of the Tusubila Crafts Group we can support women in Kamuli, Uganda. Baskets are made with dried raffia and banana leaves, and the money from sales goes directly toward supporting the artist's family with food, school fees, and other needs. Hours are Monday- Friday from 2-9pm and Saturday from 10am-4pm, and baskets sell for $10-$25.
This initiative began through the Iowa State University Uganda Program. Students studying abroad were purchasing baskets and saw that the market access was often very limited for the artists. Thus, the Uganda Alliance Club was formed, and now students work with the Tusubila group to bring baskets over, sell them in the United States, and then send the money back to the artists. The group also now makes jewelry and other gifts.
The Uganda Alliance is making a difference and bringing tusubila (hope) to women in Uganda. The Workspace is proud to support this effort by hosting this pop-up sale.
